When I found out I had the opportunity to review a pair of Heelys skate shoes, I just knew our boys would love them and we had to get a pair in their size.
The style of shoes we received from Heelys were the Heelys Stingray Hx2 (7634) shoes and as soon as we opened the box our boys were in love. Of course having twins, we just had to go and purchase a second pair, Heelys Stingray Hx2 (7738).
Heelys’ Customer Service…Is Top Notch!
The first pair of Heelys we received were an adorable bright pink pair. When our boys opened the box the first thing they yelled was ‘What??? Girl Shoes???’.
Knowing our boys don’t look good in pink, I contacted Heelys’ customer service via e-mail to exchange the shoes. Later that day, I received an e-mail confirming the new pair of shoes had shipped and they provided me with the shipment tracking number.
Needless to say, we were very impressed with Heelys’ quick customer service.
How did they fit?
Heelys’ site says their skate shoes are true to fit and they are right. Both our boys are a size 13C, which is the size I ordered, and both pairs of skate shoes fit with a little room to grow.
So, what’s in the box?
When you get a pair of Heelys, not only do you get the shoes, but you also get a set of wheels fit for your pair of shoes, the plugs, so the shoes can used as shoes, and also the tool you need to pop the plugs out to insert the wheels.
Switching between skate and shoe.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to switching between skate and shoe. Would I need a skate wrench or anything more than the tool they provide? The answer is simple, no.
The tool you receive with your shoes is used to easily pop out the plugs and the wheels easily snap in with your hand. If you want to take the wheels out, simply twist them slightly to pop them out, or you can also you the tool if needed.
Learning to skate.
Heelys’ site is packed full of informational videos from learning how to skate for the first time to learning ground tricks, grinds, stalls, and verticles. Watching these videos with the boys explained how to safely skate better than I ever could.
Heelys promotes safe skating and you can find all the information on how to skate safely on their website. There you will find the Heelys Safety Playbook and the Responsible Skating Agreement designed to help keep parents and children safe.
Before we skated, we followed Heelys’ advise and prepared by padding up with knee pads, wrist pads, and helmets.
Our twins love their shoes! They love the style, the fit and are always asking to wear them.
I love that Heelys offers a double wheeled shoes (Hx2) for the younger children to offer more stability as they learn to skate. If the boys ever want to skate with just one wheel, they always have the option of replacing the front wheel with the plug while skating on the back wheel only.
I also thought Heelys’ website was amazing! There is so much valuable information for those learning to skate for the first time to the more advance skater looking to learn new tricks. Our boys enjoyed watching the videos since they were short and to the point, perfect for a young child.
Since our twins are 5 years old, they are having a bit of a hard time keeping their balance on the skates. This is their first time skating with any type of skate and I am sure their confidence will improve with practice.
For now, they’ll be skating with mom and dad side by side until they get more comfortable.
