The California State Fair kicked off this year’s celebration with a special dedication ceremony introducing the iconic C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A letters generously donated by the Disneyland Resort to the Friends of the California State Fair.

The letters, weighing from 5,000 to 13,000 pounds and standing 11 feet, 8 inches tall each, will be permanently positioned in their new home outside the Main Gate at Cal Expo in time for the opening of the 160th State Fair on July 12. The iconic C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A letters will welcome tens of thousands of guests to the California State Fair this year.

In attendance at the dedication ceremony were Cal Expo CEO Rick Pickering, Golden 1 Credit Union President and CEO Donna Bland and Disney California Adventure Park Vice President Mary Niven, as well as state representatives and Visit California President and CEO Caroline Beteta.

Disney California Adventure Park Vice President Mary Niven was quoted saying “The “C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A” letters were popular with millions of Disneyland Resort guests and Cal Expo is a perfect destination to continue their legacy.”

The Radio Disney Crew was also on scene assisting with questions as they promoted the new Disney Channel Original Teen Beach Movie set to premier July 19th, 2013. Radio Disney provided exclusive movie swag for the kids and a studio style backdrop and props for fun photographs. Radio Disney will be at the California State Fair every Tuesday for Kids Day where kids 12 and under get free admission and all rides are only $1 for all ages!

We had such a great time on Media Day at the California State Fair watching the finishing touches being added to the Magical Midway, the Grandstand, the Livestock Pavilion and Ranchland/Livestock Nursery, The Farm, the Golden 1 Credit Union Stage, and the BBQ and Saloon. Check out some of our favorite sights at the fair this year!
