Whether we’re celebrating something small with a family backyard bash and our favorite Dr Pepper Vanilla Floats on a warm summer night or getting ready for company to drop by, I know we’re always ready with these simple entertaining tips and tricks and by always keeping our favorite products on hand.
To say my husband’s Dr Pepper addiction is an unhealthy one is an understatement. He loves his Dr Pepper as much as I love my coffee, and when he heard I was creating Dr Pepper Vanilla Floats he just about died with excitement.
We love to celebrate as a family and we are always looking for a reason to have a backyard bash during the summer. The end of the school year, summer holidays, finishing an awesome season of little league, and even reaching milestones like potty training, trying a new sport, or winning an award from our local community are all reasons to celebrate at our house.
You can’t celebrate outdoors in Northern California during the hot summer months though without something ice-cold to keep you cool. The tricky part is keeping those ice-cold desserts well, ice-cold, without going crazy running back and forth from the freezer to the party trying to serve everyone before the desserts melt.
DIY Dr Pepper Vanilla Float Backyard Bash
Throwing a backyard bash with an ice-cold dessert doesn’t have to be a labor of pain, even on a hot summer night. With our favorite simple trick for allowing family and friends to create their own delicious Dr Pepper Vanilla Floats in just minutes, you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy the party too.
To create a simple DIY Dr Pepper Vanilla Float station you’ll need a large party tub, lots of ice, glass mason jars, refreshing Dr Pepper, vanilla ice cream (we love homemade ice cream), and large paper straws. A large chalkboard sign is a great way to leave a message for guests letting them know that yes, they are welcome to create their own Dr Pepper Vanilla Floats anytime they are ready.
Six to twelve hours before your party, scoop the vanilla ice cream into individual mason jars and freeze the filled mason jars. You’ll want the mason jars ice-cold to keep your ice cream from melting once you move the jars outside. When its party time, place the ice cream filled mason jars in a party tub filled with ice and ice-cold Dr Pepper. Be sure to bury the mason jars in the ice to keep the ice cream frozen.
As the backyard bash continues through the day and/or night, guests can stop by the DIY Dr Pepper Vanilla Float station any time they’re ready for dessert. You don’t have to worry about stopping activities to have everyone eat at once and you don’t have to worry about missing the party to serve everyone.
To create a Dr Pepper Vanilla Float, simply crack open an ice-cold Dr Pepper and add it to an ice cream filled mason jar.
Add a colorful party paper straw from the self-serve straw jar to the float and guests can enjoy the refreshing dessert drink they just made.
If you want to add a retro feel to your backyard bash, forgo the cans and grab a four pack of Dr Pepper bottles (available conveniently at Walmart).
But what’s a backyard bash without a party mix? Keeping ingredients like Cheez-Its, pretzels, and popcorn on hand make it easy to create a delicious party mix anytime. The saltiness of the party mix compliments the sweetness of the Dr Pepper Vanilla Float and the salty/sweet flavors will dance on your tongue.
For our party mix, we like to combine equal measurements of Cheez-Its with a sweet & salty kettlecorn, and our favorite party mix with pretzels.
