Last weekend we took a road trip exploring California in the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L. A road trip not too far from home, yet far enough we could call it a vacation. A road trip exploring the coast of Southern California.
Traveling with a Large Family
Taking a road trip with a large family takes some logistics, especially when it comes to packing and how much space is available in a vehicle. The SUV I have now is great, but with our ever-growing children the lack of space in the third row is becoming apparent.
Our twins are almost 10 years old now and with double digits comes long legs than no longer fit in a tight third row seat. And since our youngest children are only 3 years and 5 years old, putting them in the third row is not an option. Add having to pack for a large family of six into the equation, and you can see why our road trips have limited.
But why should a family have to limited their travel due to the size of their family? Thankfully now we don’t. With the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L, we have more than enough room to pack for a family vacation and allow our children to stretch and relax as we coast down the highway.
Exploring California in the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L
Packing for our trip in the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L was nothing like I have experienced before.
In our SUV now, I have to fold our split third row seating down and pack our luggage and snacks around the child sitting in the back. But with the 2016 Kia Sedona’s SX-L total cargo volume of 142 cubic ft, 78.4 cubic feet behind the 2nd row seat and 33.9 cubic feet behind the third row seat, we have more than enough room for luggage and a few snacks.
Best of all, I no longer worry about anything we have packed falling on our children in case of an accident.
The first feature our children found and fell in LOVE with the Integrated 2nd- and 3rd-Row Window Sunshades. As you can see, the sunshades kept the sun from glaring in their eyes and made sleeping while on the road a dream.
For me, I instantly fell in love with the sleek design of the spacious driver cockpit, fitted with high-tech gadgets including: SiriusXM® Audio System, with 4.3″ Touch Screen Audio Display; Voice-Command Navigation; UVO eServices Infotainment System; BLUETOOTH® Wireless Technology Hands-Free Connectivity; Steering-Wheel-Mounted Audio, Hands-Free Phone and Cruise Control Buttons; USB/Auxiliary Input Jack; Rear-Camera Display; Back-Up Warning System; Parking Assist, with Front and Rear Sensors; Blind-Spot Detection (BSD) System; Rear Cross Traffic Alert; and Optional Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning System, and Lane Departure Warning System; and so much more!
Knowing that our vehicle was fitted with the best safety features on the market reassured me we would arrive safely at our destination.
As for the leg room, our children were more than happy with the spacious interior. With 34.8 inches of leg room in the third row, they were able to stretch their legs and relax as they enjoyed the beautiful ride down the coast.
Our Favorite Features in the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L
Another one of my favorite features on the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L are the Power Folding Outside Mirrors. Not only do these mirrors fold in to handle tight parking situations, but they also automatically tilt down when the vehicle is in reverse.
Why do I love this feature so much? Simply because I have small children who don’t always understand the dangers of vehicles. Even though we have explained to them to stay away from running vehicles, I have a constant fear that excitement will one day take over and one of them, especially our youngest daughter, will run behind a vehicle that is backing up.
With the tilt down mirrors, seeing her alongside the car is easy.
The Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control is the perfect solution for our late nights at baseball, when I’m shivering cold and our boys are roasting after a tough game.
Now, I don’t have to listen to the boys scream they’re hot after a riveting game when I set the temperature to 78 degrees to warm up on a cold night. They simply adjust their temp to 68 degrees and everyone is happy!
Another nice accessory of the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L is the in-car DVD. Though we didn’t use the DVD on this trip, we unplugged for this vacation, I know our children would love this option.
Our entire family fell in love with the 2016 Kia Sedona SX-L from the moment we got it. We loved it so much, that not only did we tour the coast of California but we also took day trips to some of our favorite Southern California locations.
Our favorite equestrian center that allows children to come and feed the horses.
Enjoying a picnic lunch overlooking the city of Los Angeles.
A view of the Rocky Peak mountains behind the Kia Sedona.
The beautiful view of the valley we live in. There’s no place like home after a long road trip!
