We put the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport through the crazy large-family test, from movie screenings and press conferences to the little league ball fields, and while the Mitsubishi lacked the power we like to see in a mid-size SUV it more than made up for it with fun features our entire family loved. Check out why we rate this vehicle as a must-have for young drivers in our Mitsubishi Outlander Sport review below.
Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Review
It never fails. Whenever I schedule a vehicle to review for a specific event, real life kicks in and any thoughts, photo ops, and story lines go out the window. But in reality, those unforeseen itinerary changes give us the opportunity to review a vehicle with all the hustle and bustle we live every day.
Our week in the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport kicked of with a screening of Doctor Strange on the Walt Disney Studios lot the day we received the vehicle. For this trip it was just me and our big boys, Kevin and Lewis. The first thing the kids fell in love with was the panoramic glass roof. That night, on the way home, the kids just stared at the stars letting their imaginations soar at all the possibilities beyond the universe we live in. And those ears. Who doesn’t love those ears.
The next day we were back at the little league fields doing what we do best. With 21.7 cubic feet behind the rear seatbacks (49.5 cubic feet with those seatbacks folded down) we had ample room for our three ball players and a full set of coach’s gear, including a pitching machine, bucket of balls, and equipment bag.
The one thing I wish the Mitsubishi Outlander had was more power, especially living in a mountainous region as we do. Pulling hills, most noticeably getting on the freeway in an uphill pull, was rough. But, on the flip side, if you have a young driver in the family and you’re worried about them racing around town with their friends, then this just may be the vehicle for you.
The interior of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is ample, convenient, and most of all comfortable.
I know I already mentioned how much the kids love the panoramic roof but, there’s one feature with the panoramic roof I have yet to tell you about. When the panoramic roof is open you can turn on adjustable lighting than runs the length of the panoramic roof. OMG! Yes, this is as fun as it sounds! The only effect that could improve this feature would be if the lights pulsed to the music. That would be awesome!
And speaking of music, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport comes with a 710-watt Rockford-Fosgate premium sound system with 9″ speakers and it sounds amazing! After the Trolls premiere and press conference we popped in the soundtrack from the film and the very first track on the film ‘Hair Up’, a contemporary R&B hit by Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, Ron Funches, thumped and bumped as we cruised down the highway.
A safety feature I was surprised to find in the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was a spare tire. Not that I didn’t expect anything less from Mitsubishi, it’s just that finding a spare tire in a vehicle these days is a rarity. It was nice to have the extra feeling of security knowing we were covered in case of an emergency.
With its sleek and sporty design, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is sure to please drivers young and old. A must have for young drivers, the Outlander Sport with it’s fun and rockin’ features is simply a blast to drive.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: Base Price starts at $27,395. As driven, $28,245.
Our family was provided the opportunity to test drive the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport through DriveShop for one week. No compensation was provided and all opinions are my own.
