Having an up to date media kit is essential for any blogger who wants to monetize their site to its fullest possibilities, but researching all those statistics each month can be a pain in the butt. But what if I told you, you can create a functioning media kit in Google Dashboard, one you just have to glance at once a month to update the stats you need most to monetize your blog.
How to Create a Functioning Media Kit in Google Dashboard
Creating a media kit in the Google Dashboard is easier than you will believe. Best of all, you can customize it to fit your needs as a personal blogger or business blogger.
To begin, log into you Google Dashboard. Under the menu list on the left, click ‘New Dashboard.' The following screen should pop up. Select ‘Blank Canvas.'
If it doesn't automatically open, you will want to click on ‘Add Widget.' The first two widgets we're going to add are the ‘Pageviews' widget and ‘Unique Pageviews' widget.
The ‘Standard: 2.1 Metric' option is the default option when you add a new widget. This is the option we're going to use for the first two widgets.
Under ‘Show the following metric:” you will want to open the options and type pageviews in the search field. Select the option when you see it.
Click ‘Save' and you are all set.
You've just added your first widget to your Media Kit in Google Dashboard.
Repeat the steps above to create a ‘Unique Pageviews' widget. Simply replace the search term ‘pageviews' in the above step with ‘unique pageviews,' select the option when you see it and click save.
Next, we're going to add some demographics to the media kit.
To do this, click on ‘Add Widget.' Select ‘Table' under the standard option, then click ‘Display the following columns:' to open the options. Type ‘Country' in the search field and select that option.
When using a table, you will also need to supply a metric. Open the metric option by clicking on ‘Add Metric' and type ‘Session' in the search field and select that option. This will specify to Google to search your site's entire sessions (pageviews).
For tables, you have the option to show a table with 5-10 rows. Personally, I am quite content with just viewing the top 5 in each demographic. To me, it looks a bit neater and less cluttered than having 10 rows and I've never had a PR rep request any more than the top 5, but you can set this number as high as 10 if you prefer.
Click ‘Save' and your new widget will be added.
To add additional demographic widgets, we're going to do something a bit different from repeating the steps above.
This time, open the ‘Country' widget you just created and change the term under ‘Display the following columns:' from country to region then click ‘Clone widget.' Viola! You just created a second demographic widget.
Repeat this step as often as needed for the demographics you want. I added the city and age demographics to my media kit.
Keep adding widgets based on your personal and business needs. Additional audience statistics including behavior, interests, and technology can be added, as well as acquisition statistics and Ad Words queries.
Once you're done adding widgets, you can drag and drop the widgets to rearrange your media kit to create an eye-pleasing, user-friendly media kit.
You can even e-mail and/or export your media kit directly from the Google Analytics dashboard as needed. Don't forget to export a hard copy each month to store in your business profile.
