MARVEL's Doctor Strange Review: A Bizarre Mind-Bending Experience
As the story begins we meet Dr. Stephen Strange, an imperious self-important jerk who is seemingly invincible at everything he does, until one tragic night. With his career at lifestyle at stake, Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, is forced to turn to the medicine he has mastered, and the very people he disparaged and belittled to save him.
But, by the time Strange learns traditional medicine can't save him he had alienated himself from everything he held close to his heart, including Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams). As strange slowly and painfully grasps humility, he learns to embrace his inner spirit unlocking powers he never believed existed.
Both Kevin Feige and Scott Derrickson have said there's no other person they wanted to play Strange than Benedict Cumberbatch, and I see why. Cumberbatch is captivating as Dr. Stephen Strange, and much like Kevin and Scott, I can't fathom another actor in his place. His introduction to the MCU ranks as one of the best ever.
The effects in Doctor Strange are visually stunning and mesmerizing. The bizarre mind-bending spectacle you will experience will take you on a strange trip back to the comic book series from the 60's. Trust me when I say this film is a must see in IMAX 3D.
Much like many of the MCU films, Doctor Strange is safe for families to watch together. While there is a brutal car crash and intense medical scenes which made me a little queasy (I'm a whimp when it comes to that), our kids were perfectly fine with it and they all loved the film.
