The holidays are all about family traditions and making memories with those we love most. For us, those traditions include shopping for a new family ornament every year, decorating our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, visiting Santa as many times as we can (because you can never be too sure), sharing laughs with our Elf on the Shelf, sliding down a huge 75-foot ramp on inflatable tubes at Winter Wonderfest, and of course, building gingerbread houses.
While building a gingerbread house has always been a tradition for our family, since our oldest children were born, many of our gingerbread houses were less than stellar. You see, there's a science behind building a sturdy gingerbread house that will survive the bustle of the holidays and one that will survive a naughty little elf with a pint-sized sledgehammer. That's where the Science of Gingerbread exhibit comes in. From creating a strong foundation and walls that can withstand an earthquake with icing as strong as mortar, Discovery Cube has the recipes to help you create a new tradition your family will cherish year after year.
Science of Gingerbread Returns to Discovery Cube
The Science of Gingerbread exhibit returns to both Discovery Cube OC and Discovery Cube LA this year with more tips, tricks, and scientific facts to help you and your family build the best gingerbread house ever. Scientists at Discovery Cube will assist young engineers as they head into the world of everyone's favorite holiday dessert while incorporating heat, math, engineering, and other important components in order to bake and create the confections everyone loves.
Here's Jacob to explain more about the engineering design process behind building a gingerbread project, whether it's a house, a boat, whatever you can dream up. You can even turn in your tasty holiday creations to Discovery Cube OC or Discovery Cube LA before Sunday, December 3rd, 2017 to enter the Science of Gingerbread competition. Anyone can enter and family participation is encouraged. Local schools, families, and businesses compete in this annual event, so stop by and view your friends’ and colleagues’ creations.
